Our Mission

Refresh Labs is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to advancing public understanding of science, technology, open-source software, and emerging digital systems through educational programs, media, demonstrations, and community initiatives.

Educational Purpose

Refresh Labs exists to educate the public about open systems, including Bitcoin, proof-of-work, open-source software, digital literacy, communications technology, and related technologies through educational media, hands-on demonstrations, transparent experimentation, and community programs. The organization operates a "Living Laboratory" where Bitcoin mining is used as an educational demonstration - mining is not operated as a commercial profit-seeking activity. The purpose is to teach how decentralized networks, proof-of-work, mining economics, and open technologies function through real-world experimentation.

Nonprofit Status

Refresh Labs is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. (Formal determination status and EIN will be published here once finalized.)

Our Commitment to Transparency

Education first. Transparency always. We publish our code, our operational data, and our finances openly - including costs and losses alongside results - because understanding how open systems really work, warts and all, is part of the lesson. See our Transparency page and public GitHub repository.
